more Sevilla

So I just realized that even though I haven’t traveled anywhere in the past couple weeks I should update everyone on what I’ve been doing here. We are all freaking out that our time here is almost up and thankfully I’ve had an amazing past couple weeks just enjoying Sevilla. Two weekends ago all my roommates were in Dublin and so I moved in with Yenny, Yessica and Anji for the weekend. This was really fun and we just felt like we were having a big sleepover all weekend. They made me good food that I’ve been missing, like nachos and burritos and pancakes, which was much appreciated being as I am so so so sick of the food I get at my casa. The weather was amazing, 75 degrees and sunny, and so one day a bunch of our friends came to their apartment and we all had mimosas and then had a wonderful day outside enjoying the sunshine. We went to lunch, went and sat at this outside bar for a while, and then paddleboated on the river which was the highlight of the weekend for sure. Thanksgiving was really weird here, and I got really emotional and sad that I wasn’t with my family. This was the first (and only) day of the trip so far where I actually wanted to go home. The people in charge of our program here took us to a really nice Italian restaurant here in Sevilla and they prepared a traditional Thanksgiving feast for us (Thanksgiving in an Italian restaurant in Spain??) We had turkey, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, green beans, French bread and pumpkin pie, and we all dressed up and had a really good time. The boys decided that they had to have turtlenecks to go along with their beards, and just looking at us all dressed up made me feel like we were so old. Saturday night the girls (who are getting kicked out of their apartment, long story) had us over for one last dinner at their place. We had pasta, nachos, potatoes and garlic bread, and once again we all got dressed up and had a nice meal. It’s funny but since being here I’ve realized how fun eating good meals with good friends can be. That never used to seem that cool but now I appreciate it so much more. After dinner we went to a bar and watched the Barcelona- Sevilla futbol game on tv. That was really cool but unfortunately Barcelona kicked our ass. Sunday night my roommate Caitlin and I decided to go out to a bar in our neighborhood with the hopes that we would find some new Spanish friends and could practice our Spanish all night. We did meet friends but unfortunately they were not Spanish… instead they were American fighter pilots who had just been flying their F15s around the UAE and were headed back to the states. Turns out they did the fly by for the Daytona 500. No big deal. What else… Spanish class has ended, and since that was everyday at 9am I am really enjoying being able to sleep in. I’m sad that class is over though because I want to keep learning more Spanish. It’s actually cold here in Sevilla now and with tile floors and no heaters we are all FREEZING in our casa. I’m wearing turtlenecks and sweatpants to bed and still cold. Everything else is going really well and even though I’m going to be depressed leaving Sevilla I’m really excited to come home and see everyone. 2 ½ weeks…. So weird. Tonight I’m off to Barcelona and Friday we go to Amsterdam, so the next blog post should be very interesting….
